OLGE: SDG & Policy Alignment

How OLGE aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Indian climate policy.

Overview

In 2015 the UN adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It set 17 Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. The goals aim for peace, shared prosperity, and a stable planet. OLGE focuses on the SDGs where it can offer open knowledge, skills, and partnerships. The sections below explain the links and show how OLGE helps on the ground and online.

Alignment with India’s NMSKCC (National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change)

OLGE is strongly aligned with the objectives and strategic priorities of the NMSKCC, one of the eight national missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) led by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

NMSKCC seeks to:

  • Build a national capacity for climate knowledge,
  • Strengthen research and evidence-based policy, and
  • Promote dissemination and use of climate knowledge across sectors and society.

OLGE’s open library framework directly complements these aims through:

  1. Knowledge Dissemination:
Translating climate research outputs, policy documents, and reports generated by DST, MoEFCC, and allied missions into publicly understandable resources.
  2. Capacity Building:
Creating accessible educational modules, webinars, and digital literacy campaigns to strengthen institutional and citizen-level understanding of climate science and policy.
  3. Data Accessibility:
Developing open digital infrastructure for climate data visualisation and public engagement which is aligning with NMSKCC’s goal of creating an integrated national climate knowledge system.
  4. Policy Outreach:
Acting as a communication bridge between research institutions, think tanks, and state agencies to ensure that scientific findings influence public awareness and action.

Through this alignment, OLGE serves as an implementation partner and outreach extension to NMSKCC by converting complex, research-driven outputs into mass-scale literacy and awareness, thereby amplifying the mission’s societal impact.

India Policy Convergence

OLGE’s framework also aligns with:

  • Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) – promoting sustainable behavior and environmental awareness.
  • National Education Policy (NEP 2020) – encouraging interdisciplinary learning and integration of sustainability education.
  • India’s Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) – supporting informed public participation in low-carbon development.
